OEM Brake Pads & Shoes Choices
Brake pads and brake shoes are composed of a friction compound molded and bonded or riveted to a metal backing plate. The friction lining naturally wears with use and the pads must be periodically replaced. There are many formula variations of friction compounds like organic, semi-metallic or ceramic all with their own unique characteristics.

Standard Brake Pads & Brake Shoes
Best-suited for more normal driving applications such as city-driving, the daily commute to the workplace and cruising on the highway. Generally, standard brake pads are the type most frequently found as OE-fitments, are the least toxic to the earth and the softest of all brake pad types. That softness allows very low noise during application, and it produces an extremely low amount of wear on brake rotors.

Premium Brake Pads & Brake Shoes
Premium brake pads and shoes provide superior stopping power and reliability for passenger cars and light duty trucks. All premium brake pads and shoes are formulated for increased service life while maintaining high friction levels at all operating temperatures, are installation ready with shims installed to prevent noise associated with pad vibration and often feature O.E. style gas slots and chamfers to optimize braking performance in repeat stop situations.

Organic
Organic brake pads and shoes are constructed from a combination of organic fibers. In general, organic pads are gentle on rotors and provide quiet operation, but they wear faster than other types and do not perform well at high temperatures.
Semi metallic
Semi-metallic brake pads and shoes contain a mix of steel, iron, copper and other inorganic fibers. They provide excellent high temperature performance and fade resistance, but at the expense of more noise and rotor wear, and brake dust creation.
Ceramic
Ceramic brake pads and shoes are a type of organic pad, but contain ceramic and copper fibers that enable them to work well at high temperatures, with less fade, but at the same time operate quietly and create less rotor wear and brake dust.
Choosing among these is a matter of braking characteristics and cost. Typically, standard brake pads and shoes are the least-expensive, but carry the disadvantages of higher dust and shorter service life. Premium pads and shoes can offer better grip especially in high-heat braking environments, may be harsher on rotors but seem to be the best overall, often cost a little more.
